A 2012 Porsche Cayenne seized at the Lansdowne port of entry

Lansdowne, Ontario, October 4, 2011 — The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) seized a 2012 Porsche Cayenne, valued at US$67,000, from a Canadian citizen at the Lansdowne port of entry this week.

Mohammed Shakir of Richmond Hill, Ontario, has been charged with smuggling, making false statements and evading compliance under section 159 and paragraphs 153(a) and 153(c) of the Customs Act.

On September 28, 2011, a CBSA officer referred Mr. Shakir and his vehicle for a secondary examination after Mr. Shakir declared that he borrowed his friend's vehicle to drive back to Canada. During the examination, officers discovered that Mr. Shakir had purchased the vehicle in the United States four days prior and registered it under his friend's name.

Mr. Shakir was released on $400 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on November 4, 2011, in Brockville, Ontario.

The CBSA reminds all travellers to truthfully declare all purchases when returning to Canada. For information on how to import a vehicle from the United States, visit the CBSA's Web site.
