Penalties

The CBSA has established an administrative monetary penalty system to complement existing enforcement tools under the Health of Animals Act and the Plant Protection Act.

Administrative penalties of up to $1,300 may be imposed or prosecution may be pursued if you do not declare restricted or prohibited items.

The system is a flexible and cost-effective response to violations that do not warrant costly and lengthy prosecution procedures but are serious enough to pose a risk to Canada.
